THANK YOU, here's a free book

Dear Readers,

I'm overflowing with gratitude. As a result of everyone writing terrific reviews and telling their friends about my latest book and bringing it to their book club, this happened during the free promo that started yesterday:

And guess what… 

IT’S ALSO #1 IN THE AMAZON UK AND CANADA KINDLE STORES!

Sorry for speaking to you in ALL CAPS, which I know can be very obnoxious, but maybe you’ll forgive me if I tell you I’ve been waiting for this kind of success for a l-o-o-o-o-o-n-g time.

But it’s free, you say. Anyone will take something that’s free.

Actually, they won’t. Because it isn’t free when that something uses up hours of your time in a way that does not bring you happiness. Readers download my novel hoping it will be just as transformative as any well-written paid book, and I try my hardest not to disappoint.

I occasionally give my ebooks away for free because I love my readers and I hope to get more exposure for my work. Right now, NOT MY JOB ANYMORE is getting more exposure than any of my books ever had before. Hopefully this will lead to more customers deciding they really need to read it.

One thing I can tell for certain—customers love the cover and most particularly, the title. I guess everyone has at least one hated job they would love to unload, and most of us have (or have had) tons of them. This is what gets customers to click on the book. But what gets them to purchase is the blurb and YOUR ratings and reviews. Or maybe one of you recommended it to a friend who told another friend and so on. You guys are the best.

Now I have a new goal—#1 PAID BOOK IN THE WHOLE FREAKIN’ KINDLE STORE!

I know, I know. As long as Freida the addictive thriller novelist keeps writing, how can I hope to compete? I'm a dreamer, I guess. And I like dreaming big.

I’ll leave you with one more screenshot—NOT MY JOB ANYMORE is #1 in Bookbub’s list of most popular deals in fiction today, beating out Barbara Kingsolver, Colleen Hoover, and Emily St. John Mandel among others. I'm honored to be sharing the page with them, almost as much as if we all got seated at the same table at a fancy awards dinner.  (Bookbub is the premium email newsletter for people looking for a bargain on ebooks.)
