Author Margie Benedict with husband Brian at book launch party for "Not My Job Anymore."

Dear Readers,

On Friday my husband Brian and I did something for the first time—hosted a book launch party. What better excuse to wear my glitter skirt? Fifty friends and acquaintances came. I didn’t know we knew that many people.

We provided wine and other drinks, appetizers, and cupcakes. Because what gathering isn’t improved by cupcakes? It was a warm evening (at last!) and people were able to venture outside to the deck without risking frostbite.

We decorated with colors that matched the book cover. We brought in flowers from Brian’s garden (I have a brown thumb). We put up a banner, and had a table full of Not My Job Anymore in different formats—hardcover, paperback, large print hardcover, large print paperback—and QR codes linking to a free ebook download.

Everyone got a free book. They all had helped me in some way: by reading and commenting on early versions of the book, by recommending it to others, or by just being my friend and doing what friends do—hanging out, sharing life stories, encouraging.

Brian decided I needed an introduction. If you ever need an introduction, you should hire him. At the end of his intro, I expected the king of Sweden to burst out of the closet and hand me an impromptu Nobel. Because that’s how impressive Brian made me sound. Afterwards all the women gushed over him. “Hands off,” I told them.

Then I spoke. I’m not sure what I said, other than expressing my deep gratitude, and making the usual threats to include them in my books if they don’t behave themselves.

Everyone seemed to have fun. They went home promising to read their books—safe to say, as I’ll never know if they don’t. Best of all, no chowdah pots exploded (that’s another story).

No matter what your achievement, I recommend celebrating it. I don’t think any of us do that enough. Celebration makes you appreciate what you have—in my case, a wealth of family and friends, and a prince of a husband. I’m a lucky woman indeed.

Some exciting announcements are coming in the next few weeks. Can’t wait to celebrate my latest news.

❤️Margie
